Integrated Electronics ThermoCouple (IETC) - Type N thermocouple – high temperature monitoring

The measurement element of this sensor is a type N thermocouple. A thermocouple is a junction between two different metals (Nickel-Chromium-Silicon/Nickel-Silicon) that produces a small voltage related to a temperature difference. The sensor contains integrated electronics to convert this small voltage to a linear output voltage. The measured temperature can easily be calculated. The success of the sensor concept can be traced back to its ease of use and wide range performance (-40°C up to 1150°C). In production for some years now, the sensor proved to be accurate, fast, resistant to very high temperature and with a good thermal shock resistance.

Characteristics
Sensor Element Type N thermocouple
Measurement Principle A custom Integrated Circuit performs the conversion from a thermocouple voltage to an accurate temperature reading using a voltage output (ratio metric to 5V supply voltage) between 4.5V (-40°C) and 0.5V (1300°C)
Temperature Range -40°C to +1150°C (continuous) 1300°C (survival)
Accuracy ±5°C from -40°C to 330°C
±1.5% from 330°C to 1300°C (including 500hrs ageing at 1100°C)
Connector 4 pin Deutsch

Applications
Control and monitoring of temperature sensitive components
Temperature measurement integrated into On-Board-Diagnosis Systems, e.g. detection of light-off temperatures of catalysts
Measurement of gas temperature (Diesel Particle Filter, Exhaust Gas Recirculation, Selective Catalytic Convertor, Turbo overheating detection/fuel economy…)

Advantages
Robust by design
High absolute accuracy by tapered tip
Fast step-response by special filling of the tip
6mm diameter for high vibration or long insertion depth application
Ratiometric analog output voltage
